- Don't keep your foot on the pedal. Continuous braking can cause the brakes to overheat.
- Avoid sudden braking, unless it is an emergency. You will achieve this if you keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
- Do not use additional spoilers that do not belong to the standard equipment. They often block airflow and overheat the brakes.
- Slow down on the downhills, as the brakes are stressed and heat up quickly.
Proper brake maintenance
Car brake care is of great importance and should not be neglected. We must pay attention to the following:
- At the liquid level in the relevant container. This check is frequent and we can do it ourselves.
- When changing brake fluids. Brake fluid attracts moisture, which can damage the brake system. Moisture in the brake fluid causes corrosion of the metal brake components and affects the effectiveness of the brakes. Brake fluid must be changed every 30.000 km, approximately every 2 years.
- In the check for pads and discs. A good maintenance rule is to check your brake pads every 15.000 kilometers. If we notice that we have to press the brake pedal a lot or it smells burnt, we probably need to change the brake discs and pads as soon as possible.
- To bleed the brake lines. Specifically, to remove excess air. The recommended check is every 2-3 years.
Extra tip: Pads should be changed more often if you drive around town.
